Julien Pascal Delannoy 

Tree planting is a very freeing job that I've been doing now for five years. It's something I do every spring and summer and I find it very rewarding and inspiring. Upon coming back to Montreal I undertook this painting trying to capture this experience with these trees that kind of look like the group of seven combined with the representation of a tree planter at the bottom there.

This artwork was an exploration of the concept of taking a politician at face value when they make speeches or public statements. The projector was used as a tool to distort Chrystia Freeland and Mark Carney's faces. it is February 2025 and one of them will become the next head of the liberal party of Canada. This is a critique of their changes in policy that they aim to bring to the table, trying to distance themselves to Justin Trudeau, who is now very unpopular in the country at the moment.

**Blending Form and Nature** In this painting, I set out to seamlessly merge the male form with the rich, untamed beauty of tropical foliage. Starting with a live drawing session, I sketched a nude figure and deliberately overlaid it onto an underpainting of vibrant plant life. My intention was to create a dialogue between human anatomy and nature, blending their organic shapes into a single, cohesive composition. Through this fusion, I aimed to explore the deep connection between the body and the natural world, revealing their inherent harmony in an expressive and immersive way.

In this painting, I set out to depict Toronto as a colossal, chaotic, and dreamlike metropolis. By blurring the boundaries between night and day, I created an artificial twilight where time feels suspended. Layers of smooth textures and shifting light pull the viewer into the city’s heart, where motion never stops. Capturing the reflective, ever-changing water was the greatest challenge, requiring patience and precision. My goal was to create not just a visual representation, but a feeling—an atmosphere that immerses you in Toronto’s energy beyond the seen.

In two thousand and twenty-two, I went to British Columbia to go tree planting. Leaving from Montreal, a friend and I traveled across Canada, ending up in Prince George on the way. There was a gloomy and ominous feeling while driving through Prince George. It was a rainy day, and we were driving by the trainyards. I wanted to quickly capture this moment in a short ten-second video that I took while driving through. At the time, I was embarking on my second season of tree planting, which is a hard and laborious job. I was nervous about the ordeal. Afterwards, I chose to represent this moment as a kind of reminder of the feeling I had before the season. My season turned out very well in British Columbia and, in some way, lifted my spirits. I came back to Montreal and started painting.

This artwork is a comssion given to me by Brad, a friend from work at tree planting. The artwork depicts Brad and his grandmother having a road trip toegther. It was a christmas present from brad to his grandmother.
